Dying Sun and Mourning Moon

The sun slowly falls, on crimson it lays.
The moon rises beside it, silent vigil it keeps.
Sun slowly dies, the moon fearfully stays.
All across the dark night, shooting stars it shall weep.

Gravestones rest on the hill like crooked teeth,
Daring you to enter where the shadows dance.
A stubborn tree stands guard at the crest of the hill,
Observing the passersbys of sheer happenstance.

Beneath the tree in a pool of blood and sweat,
Sits a man toiling mercilessly with each painful breath.
As he runs slender fingers through his mahogany hair,
He wonders how much time he has until death.

Turning to his left he sees cerulean eyes,
Her horrified gaze attached to his shoulder.
Touching her pointed ear he lets out a sigh,
Her childlike face appears 10 years older.

The sun sinks lower into the sky,
As the girl cries in the arms of her dying pixie.
He takes one last painstaking breath,
Whispers his love, voice ragged and quickly.

The girl stands horrified, wings and dress stained where he bled.
She runs bathed in moonlight across the vast plain.
She look to the sky and finds endless red,
Sees the sun spilled on the horizon, the moon watching in vain.

The strong sun finally clears from the darkened sky,
It dies into the west, taking its vibrant red waves.
The moon issues a silent goodbye,
While it rises in silence and begins to cry.
